FIRST LEGO League Explore
Equipment
It is up to you, the coaches, to please do your best to keep track of as many LEGO pieces as you can, and not lose bins, motors, etc. If a coach loses too much or something expensive, like a WeDo or Spike Essentials hub, Glastonbury Public Schools reserves the right to send you a bill for the missing/damaged items.
Team Equipment
1) A blue-lidded 12-gallon Sterilite bin, used to store:
2) 1 cardboard trifold display board
3) 1 LEGO "Explore Set" - this is in a cardboard box and is different every season. Just recycle the box, and at the end of the season these LEGO pieces can intermingle with the others in the 12-gallon bin.
4) 1 WeDo 2.0 set OR 1 LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential
- 1 large base plate
- 6 student workbooks (or photocopies, also available online)
- 2 "team meeting guides," aka coach guidebooks (or photocopies, also available online)
- Misc. LEGO pieces
- An "Office Supply Bin" containing:
- Glue, pencils, markers, scissors for decorating your trifold display board
- Dry erase marker and dry board eraser so that you don't use the ones belonging to the school
- 2 AA batteries (only if you have a WeDo set)

WeDo 2.0The WeDo 2.0 is older and discontinued, but newer Spike Essential doesn't have the motion sensor, and that can be a lot of fun! I love the WeDo.

Spike EssentialThe Spike Essential is the newer model, more focused on colors and has a built-in tilt sensor. The color sensor is a decent lead-in to FLL Challenge, but I miss the motion sensor.

How are we expected to return this stuff at the end of the season?
At the end of the Expo in March, you will be asked to:
1) Disassemble the LEGO model enough to get all the LEGO pieces and base plate back into the bin.
2) Please make sure you disengage any LEGO rubber bands; if they are left stretched out for several months in storage, they will become garbage.
3) Remove all batteries if you have the WeDo and place them to the side of your kits, so I know it has been done.
HOPEFULLY volunteers from the GHS Key Club Volunteers will break down the model and pack it up for you. You can take home the trifold if you would like it or they will recycle it for you.
