Fundraising
The FLL Explore program has thousands of dollars in expenses each year:
Equipment - replacement LEGO parts, tri-fold display boards, replacement office supplies, like glue, etc.
Team T-shirts, which are over $3000 per year
Team Registration with FIRST, over $4,500 for the 2022-2023 season
Expo - medals, entertainment, reviewers' food and paper goods, misc things like packing tape, mentor gifts
Since 2016, families have been asked to pay $25 per child, plus $2 to RevTrak to register for the activity. In 2021, the price went up to $35 because the price of the T-shirts went up by $10 per shirt. The RevTrak funds go to Jennifer Busiere in the student activities account. The BOE has given us some money each year to keep costs low.
The fundraising chairperson should work with the registration admin to ask coaches where they work. The fundraising chair should contact all coaches with a volunteer donation program and pester them to please sign up to get Glastonbury Friends of Robotics free money at the end of their volunteer time as coach. Organizations offering this are UTC companies like Pratt and Whitney, Travelers, Pfizer, and more. The fundraising chair should help guide coaches through the process. Coaches can get this money every year that they coach. This is the main avenue for expansion, as a new FLL Explore team costs approx. $1,000 for reusable equipment.
The fundraising chairperson should create a color flyer (print at your elementary school, your home, or your work) to take around (with your cute kids in team shirts!) to local businesses begging for donations. If they donate $250 or more their name and logo are on the back of the T-Shirt. Any donation will be recognized on the G-REC website, in the Expo program and hopefully in the Glastonbury Citizen. The best time of year to ask for donations is between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's nice to team up with other parents with young children looking cute in their team T-shirts.
